In the Wake of Comicon

I just wrapped up my first Phoenix Comicon as a guest and I had the time of my life! I sketched my butt off for 4 days and loved every minute of it. Thanks to everyone who bought a sketch and a book and who just stopped by to chat. And a huge debt of gratitude to Christian and Rianna Vilaire for concocting a killer con plan and letting me tag along.
I caught up with many friends and made some new ones. Here's a big shout out to all the fine artists at the show - Ben Glendenning, Ryan Cody, Tony Parker, Jenn Lee, Bryce Lee, Junior Bruce, Tim Seeley, Travis Hansen, Dan Flahive, Jim Hanna, Daniel Davis, TC Krantz, Gareth Hyde and Jeff Aden! I'm sure I'm forgetting someone, so drop me a line and remind me. And how could I not thank the convention organizers and volunteers, who made each of us feel like a superstar. Thanks, guys! Especially Brandy and Ashley.

Phoenix Comicon

Woo hoo! It's convention time, baby! The Phoenix Comicon is upon us once again. I'll be there all 3 days (including the preview night on Thursday) with the talented Christian Vilaire and the unstoppable Rianna Vilaire. Look for us under the Imagifreakination banner in the small press area. I'll have copies of Mysterious Adventure and The Vodyanoy and will be sketching and selling original artwork (for killer prices). And be sure to check out my boys Ben Glendenning, Ryan Cody and Tony Parker in the Quick Draw Sketch-Off on Thursday night. Tell 'em Scotty sent you, to which they'll respond, "Who?". See you there!

Super Bowl, baby!

Holy effin' crap! The Arizona Cardinals are going to Tampa Bay to fight the Pittsburgh Steelers for the NFL crown! It's all so surreal. After being a perennial 4-12 team, I can't find the words to describe how this feels. It used to be that the preseason was the best part of the Cards season. It's gonna be a long two weeks... Bring on the Steelers!

Art Tour Wrap Up

I've been out on the road at Atomic Comics the past couple of weekends sketching and promoting the Phoenix Comicon (Jan 23-25). Ben Glendenning, Tony Parker, Ryan Cody, Terry Tibke and I had a great time meeting and talking with all the fine folk who came out, got sketches and participated in the con's art contest. This is a Judge Dredd sketch that I ended up getting to keep.

Greatest Covers - Week 11

This is a weekly post chronicling the greatest covers in the annals of comic history. In a medium that demands creativity and imagination, these are the cream of the crop, displaying a level of originality, daring and draftsmanship that truly set them apart. Send me images or links to anything that you think would make the cut. And here we go...

It's the one-shot, Silver Surfer: The Enslavers. Nothing really remarkable here (though the Burt Reynolds-looking guy is kinda funny), but take another look and you'll notice the Surfer getting down with a lady. Kudos to Keith Pollard for that one. Get some, Surfer!
